And The Great Escape

DSCF2441

I had a blog. It was called “and the great escape”.
To blog I had to climb a small mountain- there where no signals, no coverage where we lived.
In the valley.
Back then we were not only off grid but also under the radar, it was primitive, it was hard, we had nothing. I had my blog though. It was important to me. It was important for me to try and express the extreme experience we where going through, I had to have an anchor into what I thought was “the real world”.
See, we left society. We left everything behind. We stripped down naked to face the bare, existential truth, cold turkey. You can see our story in pictures here.

Back to the blog.
I was blogging because I needed to- but I was also blogging because I suspected that my blog could generate some income. We left our jobs behind, insurance, pension, everything but we couldn´t live totally without money, we had no experience, no knowledge, no background- and we had children. The money less life as described for instance in the moneyless manifesto makes sense to me but it was too much, too soon.
We didn´t need a whole lot of money though. Just a little.
So I chose to blog (I´m a speaker and a freelancer by profession. And, yes, ok, I´ll say it: a coach)
Blogging payed off- but not in the way that I expected it to.
Our readers send us long personal letters, they send us encouragement and they send us food, clothes, money, generators, books, christmas presents…. it was a whole new economy, it was unheard of, I was blown away!
Imagine! People being so invested in your story that they will actually- In Real Life- support you. Root for you.
And later, when I did a crowdfunding project my readers gave me a working grant of more than 50.000 danish kroner.
It was crazy.
Where I had once given up, completely disillusioned about people, society, tolerance, generosity … people showed me that they cared. For alternatives. For us.

So.
I took my blog and turned it into a book. I wrote about our first year here in the forest.
I took my heart, blood, sweat, tears… and I wrote words with them.

This is me giving back.
This is me doing the best that I can. The absolute best that I can.
Thank you for allowing me!

You see, stories have value too. Isnt´t that amazing?

I really, really, really hope you will enjoy reading it!

You can order the book here (if you´re a crowdfunder you´ll receive it by snail mail)

I´m going on a book tour to Denmark. Here´s an overview over the places I´ll be performing
and also I´ll be at the BOGFORUM – I made a whole “mini- conference” about nature writing and litterature´s role and responsibility in relation to climate change

(“And the great escape” has not yet been translated into english but will soon be)

Fedt at du spørger! kh
